Findings

Pyothorax was diagnosed. There is pneumothorax present as a complication of chest tube placement. The lungs are mildly atelectatic, and there is a rounded soft tissue opacity in the left caudal lung lobe. A second mass is visible in the region of the accessory or right caudal lung lobe. The pleural surfaces of the lungs are thickened. The cardiovascular structures are normal in size and shape.

Differential Diagnosis

Pulmonary masses, likely abscesses, with secondary pyothorax

Diagnosis

CT confirmed multiple cavitary lung masses consistent with abscesses. Resection and histopathology were consistent with necrotizing pneumonia, fibrosis, and pleuritis.
