This week’s case is a 5-year-old male neutered Persian cat with increased respiratory rate and effort. What are your findings?
Findings
The cardiac silhouette is enlarged and rounded, occupying the entire thoracic width on the dorsoventral projection. The pulmonary vasculature is enlarged. There is a diffuse interstitial pattern throughout the lungs that is beginning to obscure the cardiac silhouette and vasculature. No other abnormalities are identified.
Differential Diagnosis
- Cardiomegaly with heart failure and pulmonary edema
- The cardiomegaly is most likely due to cardiomyopathy
Diagnosis
- Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy as well as pericardial effusion were confirmed on echocardiography.
is there also mild pleural effusion?
