9 year old male neutered German Shepherd presented for bloat. Is this abdomen surgical?

Findings

On a right lateral projection, there is gas filling and dorsal displacement of the pylorus. The fundus is markedly dilated and displaced ventrally and to the right. The duodenum is gas filled and travels from the left of midline to the left body wall on the ventrodorsal projection.

  • Gastric dilation and volvulus.

    There is stomach volvulus with dorsally displaced pylorus, and very serious gas distension of the stomach. Bronchial pattern on visible lung.
    The surgical approach would be considered according to the time of onset and health status of the pacient, plus recurrance issues.
    Decompression of the stomach would be priority.
