2 year old Bengal

March 9, 2017 By Allison Zwingenberger

Today we have a case of a 2-year-old female neutered Bengal cat. The day previously, the cat escaped for two hours. This morning she is unable to walk. Proprioception is decreased in all 4 limbs. Take a look at the images and post your comments. What is the artifact on the images?

Findings

On cervical radiographs, there is malalignment of the C1 and C2 vertebrae. The dens is also malpositioned on the v/d projection. There is a radiolucent fracture line in the left wing of C1, best seen on the v/d projection. The spinous processes of T2-T6 are duplicated.

Diagnosis

  • C1 wing fracture
  • Dens fracture
  • Instability of the atlantoaxial joint
  • Spina bifida (incidental finding)
