Small Animal Radiology
The definitive text on veterinary radiology in large and small animals by Don Thrall.
This book was created to incorporate and expand on Suter’s fabulous book which is no longer in print. It includes many diagrams from the original work and expands it with recent advances including cross-sectional imaging. I was privileged to contribute to the chapter on “The Lung Parenchyma”.
The only book I have found with reference radiographs of dogs at every life stage. A great reference for musculoskeletal radiographs of immature animals.
This book’s strength is the line drawings that illustrate various conditions. It is written in a very straight-forward, concise manner and covers many small animal conditions.
Small Animal Ultrasound
This is a new book with many illustrations of pathology on ultrasound. I contributed the chapter on “Neck” with my co-author, Erik Wisner.
This is the original textbook written by one of the pioneers of small animal ultrasound, Tom Nyland. There is a new edition in the works, but I don’t have the publication date as of yet.
Large Animal Radiology
A practical guide for ambulatory equine veterinarians in how to obtain the best radiographs possible and how to interpret them. Preview it on Google.
This book has very good images demonstrating abnormalities, and variations of normal structures.
A thorough review of equine musculoskeletal and cardiac ultrasound by the pioneer of the field, Ginny Reef.
Residents
This is a great book for looking up lists of differentials (specifically those you don’t always think of), and is an excellent resource when studying for the board exams.
This book explains the physics of ultrasound and Doppler in a clear and concise manner, complete with learning point summaries and self-test questions. I highly recommend reading it in addition to a general radiology physics book.
A must-have for the physics and alternate imaging portions of the board exam.
