Adult female spayed Bouvier

Today’s case is an adult female spayed Bouvier des Flandres with acute onset of vomiting, anorexia, and lethargy. What organ system is abnormal?

Findings

  • Thorax: The cardiovascular structures appear normal in size and shape. There is a small amount of alveolar pattern in the dependent portion of the right middle lung lobe. The remainder of the lungs appear normal. No abnormalities are present in the pleural space or mediastinum.
  • Abdomen: The stomach is moderately distended with fluid and gas. The small intestine is distended and plicated. There is granular material in the ventral abdomen within a distended loop. There is a thin-walled round structure in the bladder on one lateral projection. There is poor detail in the peritoneal space.

  • Linear foreign body in the stomach and duodenum (removed via laparotomy)
