This week’s case is a 2-year-old male neutered Dachshund with 1-day history of vomiting and lethargy. Peritoneal detail is a clue as to where the lesion is in this case. What is your interpretation?
FindingsAbdomen: There is mottled poor detail in the cranial abdomen. There is a mass effect caudal to the stomach on the right and left lateral projections. On the ventrodorsal projection, the poor detail is most apparent in the left cranial abdomen with a mass effect. The kidneys and urinary bladder are normal. The cecum is gas filled. No other abnormalities are identified.
- Mass effect and poor detail may be due to pancreatitis or mass originating from the mesenteric lymph nodes.
- Recommend abdominal ultrasound for evaluation of the pancreas
